a couple of months ago i was playing guitar with the band JUST ABOUT TO BURN. we were playing a show in the east village. while i was setting up my guitar on the stage i looked out to the first table in front of me and was surprised to see adam green from the moldy peaches, but even more surprised to see who he brought along with him, the MMMBOP boys, THE HANSON BROTHERS.
i wanted to talk to the brothers after the show but didn't quite know how to approach them without looking like a total dork. truthfully, i wanted a picture with them. i told them my younger sister's a huge fan and that she's going to be so psyched that they were there. which is not true. i never gained the nerve to whip out my camera. after talking with them for a while i realized that they're really nice guys. the vibe i got was a born-again christian vibe...i don't know, sometimes anybody in the east village with a healthy outlook seems like a freak.
adam green had me laughing the whole time. he was missing one of his front teeth and swore that shane mcgowan's cousin was his dentist. he was serious eventhough he kept laughing. he asked me to play slide guitar on his next album. i'm still waiting on the call.
apparantly my band members had no idea they were talking to the mmmbop boys until a week later when i brought it up..."can you believe hanson was there?"..."wha?...."
i read it in the news today that they cancelled the rest of their tour because the oldest brother needed an operation. i just wanted to say get well soon and give the boys props for sticking to their guns, evolving as musicians, playing their own instruments, writing their own songs, starting their own record label and keeping it real in a world of so many haters.
